Good on her!

I’m angrier than a hungry fat man who can’t bend down to pick up the hot dog he dropped over the fact that some people are judgmental when it comes to mental illness.  Mental illness can affect anyone at any time, anywhere.  Hell, I’m not exempt.  As I wrote a few days ago, I deal with schizoaffective disorder, so I’m familiar with the topic.

Miss USA Noelia Voigt has resigned her position, giving back her crown. She cited her mental health, during Mental Health Awareness Month, as the reason for the shocking move.  In a statement on her social media profile, she wrote that one should “never compromise your physical and mental well-being.”

So what mental issues is she going through?  She didn’t say and it’s none of our business.  But one could infer that she’s dealing with bipolar disorder or schizophrenia.  It’s anyone’s guess, really.
Her mental health is of course more important than a silly crown, so it’s nice to see someone who isn’t afraid to step forward and talk about mental health.
