This will wake you up!

I’m angrier than my ex-wife when she found out that I cancelled her health insurance as a prank over the fact that I didn’t find the song that I’m about to mention sooner.

Many church-goers are familiar with the hymn Nearer, My God, To Thee.  Well, I always did like it, except for the fact that it’s slow and, although the tune is kind of catchy, it is kind of depressing.  The solution for that?  Make a techno remix!  Fast, with bass and awesome.  And, big surprise, someone already did it!

The hymn itself was written by Sarah Flower Adams in 1841.  It tells the story of Jacob’s dream in Genesis 28:11-12:

11.) And he lighted upon a certain place, and tarried there all night, because the sun was set; and he took of the stones of that place, and put them for his pillows, and lay down in that place to sleep.

12.) And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it.

So, back to this techno version.  It is by DJ Jireh, a South African artist and features Nothabo Mativenga on vocals.  She sings the hymn with strong emotion, proving that you don’t need to sing a hymn as if it’s the most depressing thing to happen that day.  Towards the end of the song, you can really feel her emotion.

This modern version of an old-time hymn will wake you up and it’s a good way to start the morning.  I fully recommend it.

This song, released in 2019, is available on a number of platforms, so if you like what you hear, then by all means grab a copy for yourself!
