A true patriot won’t mind

I’m angrier than a patriot who sees young men and women crying foul about being expected to serve their country.  Today, the House passed a bill that would automatically register men aged 18 to 26 for selective service, better known as “the draft.”

Of course, the bill won’t pass the Senate, but it’s nice to dream about actually expecting our nation’s young men to be patriots.  So, a true patriot wouldn’t mind being automatically enrolled for the draft.

If they’re a true patriot.  While the House was at it, they should have made it so that all men (and women, someday…what makes them so special?) are required to serve in the military for at least two years, just like many other countries do.

It’s already a felony to not register for the draft, so it should be a felony to shirk one’s patriotic duty to serve in the military.  It was good enough for men in past generations.  Why should this generation be exempt?

With World War III looking more and more likely, sooner rather than later, we need warm bodies to be shipped off.

While many of those bodies will unfortunately likely come back cold and in flag-draped caskets, it’s a price our nation must pay.  It’s a price we must pay for the greater good.  We’ve done it since the country’s humble beginnings.

Good, decent men will die, yes, but it simply has to be done if a draft is activated, which it will be sometime later this year or early next year.

We’ve paid the terrible price in the previous world wars, and especially so in Vietnam. Yes, our nation had cowards who ran from military duty.

But this time around, they should pass a law that allows the military to execute by firing squad anyone and everyone who even thinks about dodging the draft.

This generation’s spoiled young men, they who are scared to sign on the dotted line, should be expected to pay the same price that previous generations did.  It’s called being fair.

There are too many cowards who hide from their patriotic duty.  Most young men think they’re too good for the military.  So, let’s force them to serve for at least two years.  That’s only twenty-four months.  The little snowflakes can handle that!

By automatically throwing the names of our nations young men into a figurative hat, we are keeping things fair.  We all have work.  Let no one shirk.  I’ve served my country, albeit briefly (and at least I tried!) and so have countless others.  What makes today’s young men better than us?

Going through life without serving our country is a cowardly life, so let’s force people to do the right thing.  Those who hide can be found tied to wooden posts with no blindfold.

I acknowledge that this bill won’t become law, but it’s nice to know that at least one part of our government is trying to do the right thing.  Cowards will shout the bill down, but one way or another, people will be drafted because World War III is coming.  You can stick your head in the sand and pretend it’s not going to happen, but it will.

Hiding now is just kicking the can down the road.  These cowardly young men who won’t voluntarily join up because they think they’re better than the previous generations of men who actually signed up voluntarily will hopefully one day find that the decision will be made for them.

And I’ll feed off of their tears!
