Here is yet another story for the “Stupid! You’re so stupid!” files. If you want to read other such stories, go to the stupid page already! Now, sometimes, people are so stupid that their death is actually a good thing. This time, we go to Colorado and explore the case of one Grace Ryan, 16.
Everyone knows that one can’t legally drink here in the United States until they’re 21, except for certain exceptions. Yes, we’re behind the times. Most of Europe and many other countries put the drinking age at 18 and in the UK, under certain conditions, 16. Ryan didn’t get that memo.
Over a short course of time, Ryan was supplied with strong alcoholic drinks, allegedly by her mother. That mother has been charged with murder, even though what she allegedly did not, in my opinion, rise to the level of murder. Maybe manslaughter, although even that’s a stretch. Ryan was clearly old enough to know what she was doing and she drank herself into a cowardly suicide.
Investigators found well over 100 bottles, all over Ryan’s bedroom. She was in full control of her life and she knew precisely what she was doing. Why should her mother be charged for something other than, say, supplying alcohol to a minor? That is not murder. It is possible, according to media reports, that Ryan broke into her mother’s alcohol stash. If that’s the case, then they need to release her mother immediately. If that allegation is true, then the mother is a dumbass, not a murderess.
It is true that Ryan coughed up blood and found herself incapable of walking. She also walked around in diapers. She reportedly told her mother that she thought she was dying and the allegation is that her mother did not get her help and in fact, allegedly continued to serve her alcohol. Yeah, well, what about accountability? Clearly, Ryan knew something was wrong and she continued her pattern of behavior. That’s no one’s fault but her own!
Ryan’s death was officially listed as aspiration pneumonia, a direct result of chronic and intentional alcohol use. Maybe she knew what she was doing and did it anyway because she was too cowardly to commit suicide any other way. Stupid!
