Music Video Pick of the Week: Something Good ’08

I’m angrier than an iPhone user who has to install a “security update” just days after a new version of iOS came out, because I didn’t think of this idea sooner.  Hopefully, you, the readers will like it, but if not, there are plenty of other blogs out there.  So, yeah.

Every week, on Sundays, I’m going to post a link to a music video that I have chosen for the week.  First up is Something Good ’08 by the Utah Saints.

The video is set in 1989, in Cardiff, a city in Wales.  It takes place on St. David’s Day, which celebrates the patron saint of Wales. It happens on March 1, which is the date of his death in 589 AD.  So, then, the video obviously is set on March 1, 1989, or 35 years ago, or 19 years before the video was filmed.

The video starts with our protagonist entering a bar. People barely bat an eye at his entrance, but then he stops in the middle of the floor and waits. The music kicks in and he breaks into the Running Man.  One guy spits out his beer and others just look on in disbelief.

Finally, some cute girls decide to get up and join him on what has become the dance floor.  They watch him and fall into step with him.  Then, others join him.  It turns into an all out party.

As a former director, I can tell you that the camera work is awesome and the dancing is too.  Whomever choreographed the thing definitely did a magnificent job!  I will let you know, however, that the choreographer was in the music video and she gives a cue to the dancers that you might not have noticed had I not written anything. See if you can spot the cue!

It’s a great music video and I won’t ruin it by reviewing the entire thing, other than to say that our protagonist pisses off the wrong person.  Oh, and I could have done without the Paris Hilton lookalike with breasts practically popping out of her tank top, but it is still well worth the 2:42 TRT.

And it is my first pick of the week.  Next week?  I usually don’t make my pick until 9:30 a.m.  But I do welcome suggestions at website@michaelcrook.net.

Come back at 10:00 a.m. eastern time next and every Sunday!  I will add a menu option tomorrow morning where you can access a page that includes links to each week’s pick.
