Could this actually be it? Or nothing?

I have oft written about World War III and how I, like many others, feel that it will take place sooner rather than later.  I’ve written a few posts about news items that implied that a major conflict was about to happen.  The most recent concerning item had to do with Venezuela.  As we all know, that story fizzled out.

Well, there is another concerning item and this time something could actually happen.  If that happens, it will literally blow up in our faces.  I speak specifically of Iran.  President Trump and our military are both doing things that might (operative word) point to a potential conflict, a conflict that could actually usher in a third world war.

What’s happening right now is this: our military is stepping up its posture in the Middle East like never before.  That alone should be alarming.  Now, it could turn out to be nothing, just like all other recent stories, but what if?  What if things escalate into an actual conflict?  What if Iran and its allies decide to literally go nuclear?

If Trump gives the green light, that will bring forth a conflict that will almost certainly trigger an Article V, meaning that if Iran attacks us, then our allies are obligated to jump in just as we are obligated to do so if Iran strikes a NATO ally.

Fighter jets and warships are preparing to fall into place so that we can attack on the president’s order.  The problem is that Iran seems unwilling to negotiate with the US on matters nuclear.

The Daily Mail breathlessly reported thusly: “Trump’s war preparations come as Iran has shut down the Strait of Hormuz for a military drill in a move that serves as a warning to the world if Trump orders an attack.”

There it is.  War.

It looks like the USA is ready.  It looks as if Iran is ready as well.  Its allies are likely preparing to attack us too.  Surely Trump knows this.  Surely Trump knows that 300 million lives could be snuffed out because he’s butthurt that Iran won’t kotow to his demands.  Seriously, Iran’s leaving us alone, so why won’t Trump allow us to do the same?

Here’s the scary part: Russia is an Iranian ally.  Those of us of a certain age know all about the Cold War.  We know what Russia is capable of: they can wipe us off the face of the planet without blinking.  Of course, we can do the same to them, and they know that, but the possibility is there: if Russia feels it’s necessary, will they attack the mainland USA?

Trump may be the finest president our nation has ever known, but he needs to stop and give this careful thought.  Is it really worth pissing away millions upon millions of lives just because he isn’t getting his way?  Iran is not an immediate threat to us, so should we really be doing something that will definitely bring forth a third world war?

For its part, Iran has threatened to slaughter members of our military after refusing Trump’s demands.  I believe them, especially given that the country has powerful allies.  All it will take here is one false move and, in a matter of hours, existence as we know it is permanently gone.  Maybe that’s a wee bit dramatic, but I think it’s a valid concern.

If we go in with guns blazing, Iran will answer in kind.  Then, most likely, Russia will join the chat and thus ends life as we know it.  Is this really something that Trump should be considering?  Hopefully, his military advisers are trying to talk him out of this move, a move that will cost lives from each involved nation.

Maybe Russia doesn’t want to get directly involved, but it is joining Iran in military drills at this very moment, so anything can happen.  What Trump needs to do is simple: leave Iran alone and work on issues that are in our nation’s best interests.  Doing something that will be seen by Iran and its allies as a precursor to World War III is not in our best interests.

Whatever’s going to happen, it’s going to occur in a matter of hours or days.  This is a warning sign that I wrote about before.  Those with access to nuclear bunkers, especially those converted to nuclear condos, are likely packing their bags and cars and are heading for their hidey holes.  Dramatic?  Maybe, but if I had access to such a condo, I’d likely be heading there right about now, just to be safe.

If things go south, they’ll survive the blast and the immediate fallout, but sooner or later they will have to come up and join the rest of those unlucky enough to have survived.  It’s been said before: when war breaks out, the living will envy the dead.  Yes, on the surface, it sounds great to survive a nuclear attack, but when they emerge, will the world that awaits them be a world where they truly wish to live?
