I’m after the whole truth!

Late last month, I gleefully published an article wherein I celebrated the fact that Jan Mika, a member of the Albany Police Department, died by committing suicide, apparently by his gun in his mouth followed by his brain matter splattering onto the wall.  Oh, I wish I could have been there to see and livestream that!

Well, now that he’s dead and buried, that’s the end of the story, right?  When Michael Crook’s on the case, that’s not the end.  I have decided to take advantage of the state’s Freedom of Information Law.  I am happy to report that I have submitted several requests to the appropriate parties.  I am on the hunt for certain documents and pictures.

Yup!  I’ve submitted FOIL requests for:

  • Photographs and reports from the scene of Mika’s suicide.
  • Photographs and reports from the coroner’s office.
  • Any other reports, body camera footage, etc. having to do with the entire matter.
  • Mika’s personnel file, with any and all documentation, including hire date, promotions and demotions.  I essentially requested every item in his personnel file that is not excluded under state law.

Yes, I am aware that some or all of my requests may be denied.  That’s fine; that’s what the appeals process is for.  I do realize that I may not get to see the crime scene photographs (technically, suicide is a crime, as it should be!).  I almost certainly may not get to see pictures and reports from the coroner.  But again, I’ll appeal the hell out of that one as well.

I am ruthless when I sink my teeth into something and my teeth are firmly so in this matter.  There are some who say I should let it go, but I shall do no such thing until every avenue available to me under the law is exhausted.

So whatever did Mika do to make me this intent on exposing everything having to do with his suicide?  Well, first of all, there is some dispute regarding his status with the department.  The information that I received that he was hired on as a patrolman who was for some reason promoted to detective.  When that didn’t pan out, he was busted down to dog trainer.  When that didn’t work out, he returned to his original position.

Apparently, that information is in dispute, hence the reason I requested his personnel file.  I’ll get to the bottom of his entire tenure with the department, no matter where that may lead me.

Here’s the thing: one anonymous tip that I received alleged that Mika was never a detective, only a patrolman, dog trainer and then patrolman again.  If that’s the case, then I would point out that Mika was with the department for over twenty years.  Twenty-two to be exact, according to a Facebook post authored by a representative of the police department.

Now, if it’s true that Mika was only “a police officer,” as the post alleges, then he held the same position for over two decades but was never promoted.  Not once!  That’s actually worse than going from patrolman to detective to dog trainer to patrolman.  Mika must have been quite pathetic if he didn’t get a single promotion in all that time.

The police report that I have in my possession seems to indicate that he was a detective as the arrest that he and his partner made in the field would have been handled by detectives, not beat cops.  So, one way or another, I’ll get to the truth, and yes, once all of the information is gathered, I will publish one hell of an article.

As for why I have him in my metaphorical crosshairs, you see, back in 2017, he did arrest that person, and he would go on to assault that person physically and sexually.  The police department was notified, but took no action.  Furthermore, when the person was arraigned with bail, Mika sent inflammatory information to the deputies at the Albany County Justice Facility and within those documents was a request that the deputies assault the author.

Mika was in court for the author’s arraignment, laughing and pointing at him.  That is another reason for me going all out on this scumbag.  I don’t care who gets hurt (not physically) in the process.

All I can say is that there was an absolute physical and sexual assault that happened at the jail before the author bailed out.  Those assaults were encouraged and requested by Mika.  Just like Mika, the deputies involved suffered no consequences whatsoever, but he put them up to the assaults, which is another reason why I am doing this.  There can be no forgiveness nor forgetting what he did.

That’s the main reason for all of this fuss: Mika’s conduct, especially the assaults, for which he suffered no consequences.  He may not have suffered any consequences in life, but I will ensure that in death, his memory is forever tarnished by my revealing the whole picture as to what kind of a person, if you can call him that, he was.

Throughout the process, I will absolutely not be contacting his family.  That would be problematic to say the least.  Not only that, but they don’t deserve to have their side of the story told.  Therefore, there is no reason to contact them as I am not seeking to hurt them in any way whatsoever.  They might very well be scumbags too, just like Mika, but I will be far away from them.

I will publish my findings and I will leave copies at the various places he was assigned to or respected by.  I have another place in mind as well.  It might be a matter of six feet.

Now, this won’t happen overnight.  It may take up to twenty days for the documents to be sent to me, so I have no choice but to sit back and bide my time.  Hopefully, all of this work will yield gold, but I am prepared to having to settle with walking away with almost nothing.

As I’ve written before, it doesn’t surprise me that Mika blew his brains out.  He was a coward even without his suicide, but given that only cowards commit suicide, he died an even bigger coward.  Now that all the mourning and whining has been done, it is my self-appointed duty to expose him for what he was.  Stay tuned!
