Calm down! It’s just a symbol!

There is a lot of drama going on at Branham High School in San Jose, California today.  That’s because a group of students went to the football field and formed a human swastika.  They then posted a photograph of the display of free speech, sending snowflakes into a tizzy.  The students, apparently all minors, have been identified but will not be named at this time.

Now, rather than celebrating free speech, many people are crying that the stunt was “antisemitism.”  Well, no, not really.  First of all, the swastika is merely a symbol and symbols never hurt anyone.  That symbol existed long before the Nazis repurposed it.  Now, all people think when they see it is hate speech.  Sad.

The symbol dates back to at least the ninth century, and now it’s considered a bad thing.  Not so!  It’s merely an expression of beliefs and values and it was never meant to be thought of as hate speech.  Yet, here we are.

It’s truly a sad day when people get up in arms about a simple symbol.  Don’t we have enough to worry about these days without spending time on symbols and students who mean no harm?

The caption under the photograph quoted a 1939 speech by Adolf Hitler:

“If the international Jewish financiers in and outside Europe should succeed in plunging the nations once more into a world war, then the result will not be the Bolshevization of the earth, and thus the victory of Jewry, but the annihilation of the Jewish race in Europe.”

I don’t see anything wrong with what Hitler said.  In fact,  I support it.  It should not be considered hate speech.  Look, President Donald Trump wants to make America great again.  Hitler simply wanted to make the whole world better again and for that he was and still is despised.

The students who participated in this activity are not bad people.  They are simply students who wanted to express themselves and now they find themselves under investigation.  Sadly, they will likely suffer consequences and that simply isn’t fair.
