Not too long ago, I had a weekly feature wherein I would select a music video from a random artist. I also had a brief series of interviews with influential artists. To that end, last year, I featured Ukranian yodler Sofia Skidchenko.
Maybe I’ll bring back interviews, but for now I am going back to a weekly article that features a talented artist. But this time, there’s a twist! I will only feature music videos from the 1990’s, an era that gave us the best music ever.
Going forward, this feature will publish on Saturdays.
Today, I picked a cover song. Stayin’ Alive, by N-Trance (1993), a British group with many hits. As for this song, however, the video is a bare-bones but interesting song. As you might expect, there are many references to the 1970s. But I like the video anyway!
The song itself features the late Ricardo da Force, born Jervis Ricardo Alfonso Lyte, a well-known vocalist known for several hits, including songs for The KLF among many others.
The group is known for many singles, with perhaps the best one being Set You Free.
As for this video, it definitely looks like it was low-budget, but it’s still a decent video. Interesting camera work and editing.
Despite the video is low-rent, I give this video a 6/10. There’s a lot to be improved upon.
