I can’t believe that I have to write this, but here we are. If you, like me, are on TikTok, you have likely seen a lot of fearmongering today. The biggest fears, according to what I believe are conspiracy theorists or, in my opinion, complete psychos? Greenland and Iran. Those countries seem to be capturing the attention of self-appointed journalists.
The reason that I won’t be posting links to any news stories is because…well, no reputable news source is mentioning these stories, because they, like me, know that there’s no true story here. What we have are people who want to get views as opposed to legitimately reporting on actual news stories. But then again, that’s what TikTok is about these days.
First, let’s talk about Greenland. Several countries, especially Denmark, are sending military personnel under the guise of preparing for exercises. In reality, various countries’ military personnel are awaiting something that will never happen: a confrontation with the United States. Lots of people are crying that World War III will start because of President Trump’s firm intent to take Greenland by force.
Let’s be honest here: Trump knows that if he proceeds with force, there will be a major conflict between NATO nations. Were anything to happen, Article V would be invoked and then, technically, another world war will begin. But it’ll never happen. Why? Because for all his posturing, Trump knows that he shouldn’t put our military personnel in danger for a small island that isn’t a security risk, despite Trump’s protests to the contrary.
Trust me: within a few days, Trump will gracefully bow out and there will be no conflict. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. This will all blow over and there will be no military conflict between NATO allies. Mark my words, take it to the bank, bet the farm, whatever other idiom you want to use.
Now, as for Iran, Trump has made indications that he’s willing to start a conflict there as punishment for that country’s apparent taste for executing protesters. What reasonable president would risk our military over some country that shouldn’t concern us?
By that I mean that if Iran is indeed executing protesters, that’s not our problem. It may sound cruel, but it really isn’t our problem and our resources should not be used in this case. Iran is not causing our country any direct problems, so to intervene in any manner would put American lives at risk over nothing.
If you’re worried about World War III, just stop. At least for now. Sure, there will one day be a third world war, but is it around the country because of either Greenland or Iran, or both? I am confident when I say that the answer to that is no. No, we don’t need to run to our bunkers and hide like scared bunnies. No, we don’t need to get right with God. No, we don’t need to say our last goodbyes.
Let me make this clear: nothing is going to happen, at least for now. The Greenland problem will go away within the next day or so. The Iran problem is not ours to solve, and surely Trump will see that. Leave Iran to their own devices. If protesters there don’t want to be executed, then the solution is clear: don’t protest! Simple!
So if you think now is the time to do stupid stuff because you think we’ll be wiped out in a nuclear conflict brought about by Trump’s desire for an island and his apparent desire to interject ourselves into a Iran problem that is not an American problem. It is not our job to interject ourselves into things that don’t concern us. Dead protesters in some weird country in a desert don’t concern us.
Look, I realize that we’ve involved ourselves in conflicts that didn’t really concern us. That would be every conflict except for the Revolutionary War and The War of 1812. Everything else? We shouldn’t have gotten involved and that includes the petty revenge campaign that started almost immediately after a small, inconsequential attack on a few buildings. President Bush sent our troops into harm’s way in the name of revenge. There was no need for that.
So, yes, we have a history of fighting other countries’ battles for them. That time ends now, especially with the Iran situation. So breathe…relax. World War III is coming someday, but not now.
