I’ve written an awful lot on this site in regards to petty revenge. We see it all the time. Two towers came down on 9/11. President George W. Bush’s response? Send our military to exact retaliation, with many of them coming home in pine boxes. Osama bin Laden was found. The solution? Murder him, which they did as he wasn’t an immediate threat at the time that vile Navy SEALs slayed him. Revenge over a few planes and buildings. Disgusting.
Well, now there’s more pettiness. Following an attack in Syria last week that killed three, the military has slaughtered people they think might be connected to ISIS. So here we are again: an eye for an eye. This is just another example of how our government murders people in cold blood at the behest of an otherwise great commander in chief.
There’s no need for retaliation. Ever. After 9/11, we shouldn’t have done anything other than mass deportation of people who shared nationalities with the alleged plane hijackers. So, a few people get killed and our government’s solution is to kill? Make it make sense!
It’s almost as if our government wants to play by their own rules. Rather than kill bin Laden, we could have captured him through non-lethal means and then put him on trial in an international court. But no, let’s kill him instead. Disgusting.
Look, the three people who died knew what they were getting into, so really, they have only themselves to blame. Why should we then do a tit for tat? Just walk away peacefully, being the bigger people.
It’s time for our nation to stop retaliating. It accomplishes nothing.
