Just as predicted

Yesterday, I wrote an article that discussed today’s supposedly major snowstorm.  I wrote that it was a whole lot of hype over absolutely nothing.  It seems that I am correct.  I went out for an appointment expecting actual snow.  Only two inches or so hit the ground.  That’s absolutely nothing.  As predicted, drivers have gone full retard.

As usual, I drove for the conditions, driving at a reasonable rate of speed, given that, despite the mayor’s promise, the plows were not on the road on my way to the appointment.  On the way home, however, the plows were out, but the shovel mechanism was up, not down.  Snow continued to drop, but again, it was nothing to worry about.

Drivers drove like idiots, as evidenced by the fact that on my way home, there was one crash and one car that slid off the road.  Keep in mind that the snow that was on the ground should not have been an issue for a competent driver.  Also, there is no ice on the roads, so why the car spun out is beyond me.

Even if there was ice, and even if the snow surpassed, say, four inches, that’s no reason for drivers to not be able to get from point A to point B.  As I mentioned yesterday, I have driven across the country twice and lived in three states known for intense snowstorms and I have yet to cause a collision.  So, then, you’ll understand why incompetent drivers enrage me because they’re endangering me and everyone else on the road.

I am home for the day.  I have provisions, so my intent is to stay indoors so that I am not sucked into a collision because some asshole doesn’t know how to drive in the snow.  Let other people get into crashes.  Me?  I am in my nice, warm living room, feeling no sympathy for those who are out in the snow.

It remains to be seen how much snow will actually be on the ground when the snow ceases.  Depending on who you ask, the guess is eight inches or up to a foot.  Even if it ends up being a full foot, that should not qualify as a major storm.  Regardless of what happens, I will be unaffected by incompetent drivers.

People really overreacted today.  The city’s library system is closed and there are rumblings of CDTA pulling buses off the road.  All this fuss for nothing, nothing at all.

Albany’s snowstorms are nothing, despite the panic and idiocy that emerges when there’s a mere inch of snow.  Now, Buffalo?  Those storms are intense and I would stay off the roads there.  Not because of my inability to drive properly, but because of others.  It’ll be interesting to see how many collisions happen today.

What I can tell you is that I am letting others get into crashes.  As for me and my house, I know how to keep myself comfortable and safe.
