The SNAP drama that I’ve been following continues to be hilarious. News broke just a few minutes ago that the Trump administration has been ordered to pay out November benefits in full by tomorrow. While I’m certain that million of lazy bums who want life handed to them will be overjoyed, such a feat is unreasonable. To the left is a meal that I can afford but SNAP recipients can’t. They go hungry. I don’t.
Even in 2025, it’s pretty much impossible to push SNAP funds to the states who then must push funds and instructions to their vendors in one day. The business day has come to a close in this time zone, and that means that there’s nothing that can be done. Surely a judge would realize that such an order is impossible to honor.
Actually, the order compels the administration to push funds to the states by tomorrow. That’s still unrealistic given that the business day is over and done with. As far as what timeline the states need to work under in order to actually get funds onto lazy Americans’ cards, that is unknown. There’s simply no way that people will see those funds tomorrow.
Look, I know people are starving right now, including children. I simply don’t care. I will say this: food pantries in the Albany area have been seeing people show up at a rate twice the normal rate. At least one food pantry ran out of food today, leaving the volunteers no choice but to turn people away. I wish I’d been there to take pictures of someone being told that they and their children will go hungry today. I feel no sympathy for them.
It looks as if people on SNAP are running out of options. I know that more than one pantry in my area ran out of food due to much higher than normal needy people. Without SNAP funds and without food pantries to turn to, many people will be forced to make difficult decisions. Some will have to sell their personal property, maybe including their cars.
Those without friends or family to fall back on may be tempted to do the intolerable: shoplift. I can only hope that area grocery stores, especially Walmart, have steps in place to apprehend and prosecute each and every person who tries to walk out the door without paying just like the rest of us.
I can tell you that if I was store management on duty, I would hire off-duty, armed police officers and deputies. I would then prosecute and if the thief brought their children, I would call CPS to ensure that those kids get taken away. And I wouldn’t lose a moment of sleep!
Happily, I was able to stop a shoplifter today at Walmart. I got finished paying for my wares as any decent person would. I came up behind a fat black lady waddling out the door with a shopping cart full of food. I knew she didn’t pay. This particular Walmart had armed security on duty. I got his attention and waved him over.
I then got in front of her cart and physically stopped it. She went left. I went left. She went right. I went right. I distracted her long enough for security to get her. By that time, Walmart’s asset protection person was there. The lady was escorted back into the store. She got away with absolutely nothing.
On my way out, one person called me “heartless” and another said I should mind my business. To hell with them! I saw a black person trying to do what they do best: steal. I did what I had to do. Now, if the person had been white, I likely would have just let it go. But when I see a chance to screw over a black person, I take it.
There are no excuses. If you steal, even while starving, you belong in jail and you should have your kids taken away!
If people are tired of being turned away from food pantries and are tired of SNAP benefits not being on their cards, then the solution is simple: get a job, just like the rest of us, or at least those of us who believe in actually working for a living, unlike SNAP recipients.
It will be interesting to see how long it takes to actually get benefits onto cards. According to several sources, it can take up to two weeks after the states receive SNAP funds to actually put funds onto cards. This means that this latest development is of no help to people who are starving now at this very moment. If they don’t have other resources to fall back on, they will continue to starve. That makes me laugh.
