As my frequent readers know, I’ve been staying on top of the SNAP (EBT/food stamps) drama since it started. I have been doing so on this website and on my TikTok profile. Millions of recipients were supposed to receive their benefits yesterday and today, as well as into next week. Yesterday and today, people are waking up to no new benefits on their cards.
Seeing people, including children, bereft of benefits, did my cold, black heart good. I pictured people starving throughout the month of November. Well, someone has gone and taken my joy away. That’s because things are apparently underway that would see people reunited with their benefits by Wednesday.
According to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, speaking to CNN, benefits could show up in a matter of a couple of days. But let’s keep that in perspective: could. Anything can happen tomorrow, and it’s still possible that benefits will be suspended into the middle of the month. If Bessent is correct, however, people will soon wake up to benefits.
“There’s a process that has to be followed. So, we’ve got to figure out what the process is,” he said. He is correct. There is a process, but that process could in theory be sped up given the magnitude of the current situation.
In theory, given that the technology exists, people could actually see new money on their cards as soon as tomorrow afternoon. The secret that they don’t want you to know is that it’s technologically possible to make it happen.
After all, as several people pointed out in whiny emails to me, some people supposedly qualify for emergency benefits and they apparently see the funds the day after their application is approved. If that rings true, then it’s certainly possible that benefits will show up on Tuesday morning.
Despite all of the available technology, it currently takes about two weeks for the money to ultimately trickle down to EBT cards. But again, it could happen much sooner than that. I’ve pointed that out and I’ve also stated the obvious: if it really wanted to, the government could technically get benefits pushed to cards by the close of business tomorrow. We’ll see if they really want to when the business day starts tomorrow.
The good news is that many people will go hungry for a few days. Yes, children too. That makes me giddy with joy. I’ve enjoyed seeing people play the victim on TikTok. One person even turned her phone towards her young child, stating that “my baby girl is starving.” That’s just scary. She should have been more prepared. Maybe I should track her down and contact her local social services department so that the child can be placed with someone who is capable of feeding her.
Even if the suspension of benefits lasts only a few days, this situation ought to motivate them to roll out of bed and go get jobs. But then again, maybe not. People who are on SNAP typically don’t want to work anyway. That’s why they’re on SNAP to begin with, right? Right!
It will be interesting to see what happens tomorrow. There is still the possibility of the Trump administration appealing the court order issued and it’s possible that they will request a stay, which means the benefits won’t show up at all. But if the Treasury secretary is stating that a Wednesday payout is possible, he should be taken seriously as he is in a position to know about such things.
Whatever happens, the Trump administration must report to a judge at noon tomorrow and tell the judge what they are doing to remedy the situation. It is still possible that people may see benefits on Wednesday, but only partial benefits. That might be easier to pull off than finding a way to pay out full benefits. That makes me hopeful, because people will still starve if given only partial benefits.
It’s worth pointing out that my fellow Republicans, including President Donald Trump, want to pay SNAP beneficiaries the benefits that they don’t really need or deserve. To be honest, I believe that the SNAP program should absolutely be abolished, eliminated, cancelled or however else you want to word it. We need to hold people accountable for themselves and for their poor life choices.
If you want to blame someone for what’s going on, blame a DemocRAT. I, however, have no problem with DemocRATS being responsible for all of this. The Republicans want the government open and our nation’s people fed. Me? I just want to see weeping, wailing and gnashing of teeth.
Anything can happen tomorrow, and I will be sitting back and watching with great amusement!
