Leave it alone, Trump!

Frequent visitors to my site know that I feel that the finest president that our nation has ever known is our current president, Donald Trump.  I support almost every decision that he’s made.  Right now, he’s in the dog house for much of our nation, because the DemocRATS have convinced the world that it is the fault of Trump and all Republicans that millions of people have lost forever their November SNAP benefits.

Of course, we know that the DemocRATS are the ones keeping the nation closed, but that’s not the point of this article.  Like I stated, I am a die-hard Trump fan and I back nearly every decision that he’s made.  I cannot, for example, support him in his decision to threaten Nigeria with military action because of the way that Christians are apparently being treated over there.

Trump feels that Nigeria is allowing terrorists based in the country to brutally execute Christians.  He has gone so far as to instruct the Department of War to prepare for potential military action, meaning that there’s a potential for the men and women of our military being sent over to die, not in defense of our country, but in defense of religious freedom in another country, a country that is inconsequential to us.

As a Catholic myself, I of course do not support killing people over their religion.  The small battle within World War II, known as a “holocaust,” is an exception.  I feel that the events that transpired there needed to happen.  That, however, is not the point.  While I don’t support killing Christians, even in another country, I do not support a president sending our troops to die over religion, especially when the problem is another country’s problem to solve.

Trump posted this on social media, improper use of capitalization and all caps left intact:

“I am hereby instructing our Department of War to prepare for possible action. If we attack, it will be fast, vicious, and sweet, just like the terrorist thugs attack our CHERISHED Christians! WARNING: THE NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT BETTER MOVE FAST!”

Trump really shouldn’t be threatening Nigeria.  I really don’t think that the terrorists should be any of their government’s concern.  It’s out of their control.  I’m saddened that Trump is weaponizing our military over something that doesn’t in any way involve the United States.

It has been claimed that since 2009, around 125,000 Christians have been killed in Nigeria.  That’s quite the allegation, isn’t it?  But it’s not as big of a deal as it may seem.  If that number is accurate, then over the past 16 years, only 7,812 Christians have been killed per year.  That’s 651 per month or roughly 22 Christians per day.  See?  When you put it in perspective, it’s not really all that bad.

Are we really supposed to put the lives of our troops in danger over a paltry 22 deaths per day?  That’s not reasonable, especially since none of the dead should concern us as a country.

Look, this is just like Iraq and Afghanistan.  President Bush took it upon himself to send our military over there and all over petty revenge.  Countless lives were lost in the name of vengeance over the events of 9/11, which were really overblown, if you think about it. 9/11 was not as big of a deal as the “never forget!” freaks make it out to be.

Only 3,000 or so people died on that day, but Bush caused many more lives to be lost over the course of two years.  We had no business invading other countries to retaliate.  What we should have done is simply got up, dusted ourselves off and walked away.  Bush gambled with the lives of thousands of troops and they were the ones who lost.  We simply cannot let that happen again.

Trump is fully aware of the price that our country paid in the form of dead troops, but he seems intent on repeating history, and quite frankly, I expected more of him.  This is the first time that he’s disappointed me and I hope it is the last time.  He should even be considering playing games with the lives of our troops.  If he sends them over to Nigeria as he’s threatening to do, then our troops won’t die in defense of our country, but in defense of a problem that is not ours to solve.

Both Bush and Obama seemed content to treat our troops like pawns, but I never would have thought that Trump would follow in their footsteps.  Though I am disappointed in him when it comes to this decision, I am otherwise quite content with his presidency and every other decision that he’s made.  Yes, I am a proud Republican.  A MAGA Republican!

Dead Christians in our country would be one thing, but when they’re dying in another country, especially in Nigeria of all places, it’s really not our problem, is it?  Why should our tax dollars and the lives of our troops be wasted in this situation?  Nigeria needs to get its terrorists under control.  It’s their country and it’s their problem.  Also, when you’re in a country that persecutes Christians but you openly confess your Christianity, that’s on you and you should not expect the United States to run to your rescue.

I sincerely hope that Trump reverses course here.  I get it: Nigeria is somewhat of an ally to our nation.  We have trade agreements in place and we have a good diplomatic relationship, though we do have occasional conflicts in regards to policy.  But even so, Trump should not misuse our military in order to rescue a people when those people aren’t our obligation to rescue.

What it comes down to is this: this is Nigeria’s problem.  Let the Nigerian government solve that problem on their own.  Remember, Nigeria is not a NATO nation and we do not have the obligation to help them.  Given that, Trump has no business risking the lives of our troops when it doesn’t concern our country to begin with.

Let’s hope that Trump reverses course, for the good of our nation and our brave troops.
