At first blush, Larry Sorenson, 71, might cut a sympathetic figure, but the retired California businessman has found himself going from having a million-dollar nest egg to having nothing at all, and it’s all because he’s an extremely stupid fool. A widower, Sorenson found himself in an empty house, a home that he and his wife built together.
It all started when he received an unsolicited text message, ostensibly sent by mistake and meant for another person, from a woman who claimed to hail from Los Angeles and who introduced herself as Tina. After a bit of social engineering designed to earn his trust, Tina soon began pressuring him to wire money into various accounts, including what she said was a cryptocurrency situation.
As soon as anyone says “cryptocurrency,” a red flag immediately pops up. I consider those things to be a scam, one of those things that sounds too good to be true: money with absolutely no effort whatsoever. I too have been approached to invest in those things and every time, I turn it down as there’s a high probability that it’s an attempt to drain me of what little retirement and investment funds I may have.
The thing about cryptocurrency is this: there’s no such thing as free money, and it’s too bad that Sorenson didn’t get that memo.
There are many different ways that people try to socially engineer other people into handing over their hard-earned money. One of those ways is to leverage their fame, or infamy as it were. Such is the case, I allege, with Hailey Welch, better known as the “Hawk Tuah” girl. If you don’t know what that is, Google is your friend.
Welch used her fame to hawk a cryptocurrency scheme and things quickly went sideways, within hours of its launch, leaving those who she reigned in bereft of their funds. Welch claimed ignorance and maybe all-American stupidity, but it’s my allegation that she knew precisely what she was doing.
As you might imagine, numerous lawsuits were thrown her way and she still flew the ignorance flag rather than hold herself accountable. The FBI even knocked on her grandmother’s door. It’s my opinion that Welch should have been held criminally responsible because I truly believe that she knew what she was doing.
Just as Welch allegedly milked investors dry, Tina ruined Sorenson’s life and he has only himself and the fact that he’s a retard to blame. He has no one else to blame. He chose to raid his retirement account as well a other funds and now he’s crying to the media. I feel no sympathy for him at all.
Sorenson asked no questions. He just sent money over and over again at the behest of a woman who communicated with him through a burner phone and then only through text messages. She even sent photographs of herself, but we all know that those images were not hers.
This idiot will likely lose his home over this. He is broke and there’s nothing that anyone can do to save him. His daughter tried, but despite her best efforts, it came to light that no government agency can help him. After all, there’s not much that regulators can do about someone being a retard. He absolutely deserved to be bled bone dry. It’s actually amusing to picture him sadly sitting on the sidewalk outside of his home, crying and homeless.
This is just another matter of a fool being separated from his money. Let this be a cautionary tale: never wire money to anonymous people, no matter how convincing they are. Remember one thing, and it’s really quite simple. If it sounds too good to be true, then it is. Too bad that this guy missed the memo.
