It just never ends!

In my numerous articles on the topic of World War III, I discuss one precursor to war: escalating signs in the days preceding a nuclear launch.  A couple of days ago, I wrote about Russia’s uptick in suspicious movements.  Now, to hear Norway tell it, Russia’s leader, President Vladimir Putin, is stockpiling nuclear weaponry at an alarming rate.

It appears that Russia is preparing for a war with NATO, and if that happens, the United States is going to be directly involved, thanks to Article V.  Essentially, that article means that an attack on one is an attack on all.  If Putin makes a move and attacks a NATO ally, World War III will begin.

The notion of World War III has been going on for decades now, even when the Soviet Union collapsed and the Cold War era came to a close.  Too many people have become complacent, thinking that a third world war will never happen.  Well, if Russia’s slowly escalating posturing is a sign, then we should all be preparing for war.

According to Norway’s Defense Minister Tore Sandvik, Russia is starting to increase its presence in the Arctic Circle, especially in the Kola Peninsula.  That area is part of Russia, and it is that area where much of the nuclear superpower’s nuclear arsenal is stored.  Russia’s weapons are, at this very moment, aimed at Norway, the United Kingdom, Canada and, of course, the United States.

Russia’s attack submarines are at the ready, and that should alarm everyone, even those who think that World War III is less reality and more fiction.  The country also appears ready to block shipping routes and if that happens, it’s possible that ships carrying much-needed supplies will be fired upon.

As for Norway, the country is not going to take Russia’s aggression lightly.  In Norway, military readiness is ramping up at a very fast pace.  Bunkers designed for the Cold War are being reactivated, a very telling sign that Norway will not be intimidated.   Fighter jets and submarines are likewise returning to the Cold War protocol, meaning that it’s more likely than not that those weapons will be at a hair-trigger stance.

Though Norway may be preparing for the possibility of war, but its track record is troubling.  A major incident, a near miss, occurred in 1995.  It was then that Russia’s strategic command came very close to launching a retaliatory nuclear strike because a scientific rocket from Norway was mistaken for a submarine-launched missile.

That’s how it’s going to be.  There will be misunderstandings now just as in the past.   It calls to mind an incident in 1983 when what was then the Soviet Union thought that we’d launched one nuclear missile, when in fact we launched nothing.  If a military commander hadn’t insisted upon waiting for confirmation, the world would have ended.  Will such a miscommunication happen this time around?

Yes, Russia is pointing more weapons in our direction than ever before.  But we are doing the same to them, bringing us back to a Cold War stance.  Things could blow up, no pun intended, at any moment.  It is probably a good idea for those who have bunkers underneath their houses or in silo condos to get there, or at least think about getting there.

At this very moment, we’ve probably re-directed a large number of missiles towards Russia.  We’ve aimed these things at each other, which means that we both have a lot to lose.  But if Russia does the unthinkable, we will retaliate, and both countries will destroy each other and the world.  Is Putin really willing to take that chance?  He appears to be ready, as aiming missiles at us could be a declaration of war.

It may very well be that our government is preparing for the inevitable.  In short order, we will likely see bunkers being reactivated.  The preparations will be quiet but firm.  Now more than ever, the possibility of World War III is greater, given that Putin seems less interested in peace and more interested in global domination.

There’s nothing we can do but sit back and wait.  As I’ve written before, this is how it starts.  There will only be escalations, and I believe that things may start getting spicy within the next week.  I sure hope that I’m wrong, but we need to prepare for the worst.  This may very well turn into another Cold War, but the realistic outcome is a third world war.

Sleep tight!
