This article previously discussed the Medical Aid in Dying Act that will soon become law here in New York state.
In this article, I expressed support for the act and for our governor, Kathy Hochul. I have decided that, as a Catholic, I can no longer support assisted suicide, nor suicide at all.
It is not our place to intentionally take our own lives. I would go so far as to say that doing so is blasphemy.
Those who commit suicide should, in my personal opinion, be considered to be in a state of mortal sin and as such, it is my belief as a rank-and-file Catholic that those who do kill themselves intentionally should be denied a funeral Mass.
Whereas I previously supported the act and suicide in general, I can do so no longer. I apologize to my fellow Catholics and to the Church itself.
