The polls are closed, but it ain’t over!

The polls for the primary election (Democrats only) just closed minutes ago.  Results won’t start popping until at least 9:30.  Having worked as a poll inspector, I can tell you that while the polls did close at 9:00, there’s still a lot of data to be transmitted electronically from the polling site, and in some cases, results must be delivered old school, as in thumb drives.

Even in 2025, data from tonight’s election will not be known in mere minutes after the polls close.  They have the technology, but the Board of Elections doesn’t want you to know about that.  The absentee votes have already been counted and it is very possible that all they’d need to do is hit one simple button and some voting results could be available at the same time that I am writing this.  But, no, Albany County is still in the stone age!

We won’t really know who the winner is until the wee hours of the morning.  As for me, I am not staying up that late.  I’m content to read my push notifications when I wake up in the morning.  As long as Corey Ellis loses, Albany will have at least a small prayer at being saved.  But even if he loses, he could still win.  More on that later.

And to be clear, if he wins, Albany loses.  I’ve been told things about him.

I don’t know if those things are true, but if, and I say if, they’re true, then he’s at the very least financially irresponsible.  Allegedly, he has a baby mama and bill collectors banging on his door.  This coming from a source who claims to be a neighbor.

If it is true, then I posit that he can’t manage his private affairs, so how can he manage the city?  Hopefully, the voters saw through his act.

But what about me?  What about my campaign to become Albany’s 76th mayor?

As I mentioned before, I was just starting my mayoral campaign when some troubling health news emerged.  I was initially diagnosed with colon cancer, but apparently, a bowel obstruction can be misdiagnosed.

Anyway, I chose to bow out of the race even though I would have been the first unaffiliated candidate in a long time.  Ever since I announced that I was quitting the race, I’ve gotten constant emails encouraging me to keep going.

If I were to keep going, I would have to proceed as a write-in candidate and that’s pretty much an impossible thing to overcome.  Not only that, but I am no longer that unaffiliated candidate that announced in January.

Last month, I made the decision to register as a Republican.  That party’s agenda and values are compatible with mine.

Now, assuming that I would go forward, I’d be just one Republican candidate. Isn’t it possible that some more Republican candidates are merely waiting to see which Democratic candidate emerges victorious?  I suppose it is possible, but they would have to have gotten their signatures in before last month’s deadline.

I could pursue a write-in campaign under certain conditions, and I meet all of them.  It is possible that a Republican candidate or two has already turned in their paperwork but he or she hasn’t stepped forward into the public spotlight.  It is also possible that other people will attempt a write-in campaign.

In other words, the fight is only beginning!  And I would point out that a couple of the mayoral candidates are running on more than one party line, so tonight’s losers could still become winners in November.  It’s wacky, folks!  Anything is possible in Albany these days!

At least one Albany TV station is saying that the next mayor will be decided tonight.  Problem!  They forgot the fact that some of the candidates are on other party lines and that gives them a chance, albeit a small one, at still being elected.  So, the local NBC affiliate jumped the gun.

Right now, I’m at the point that as long as a Democrat doesn’t win, I’ll be happy.  If another Democrat takes office in January, Albany is, to be blunt, fucked.  I would rather see a convicted pedophile take office than see another Democrat win.

To be clear, I’d rather see a level 3 sex offender who harmed children win than have Ellis in office.  If you voted for Ellis today, kindly fuck off and never come back.

And as long as I’m being honest here, we don’t need and shouldn’t want a black mayor, so that knocks three of the five candidates out.  I’m not going to endorse anyone just in case I jump back in, but if we’re going to be cursed with a black mayor, then don’t let it be Ellis!

As for my health situation, if left untreated, my bowel obstruction could be fatal.  I need immediate surgery, as I have for quite some time, but I have declined to move forward with that given the strong possibility that I would need to wear a poop bag for the rest of my life. That’s not worth it to me.  If I do end up dying, that’s just the cold reality of life.

I’m not suicidal.  I’m not in crisis.  I’m just realistic and getting that surgery could result in my quality of life declining to the point that it wouldn’t be fair to me.  I refuse to risk wearing a poop bag for the rest of my life.

My stance is not to surprising given that I have a DNR and MOLST.  What the hell are those?  Well, read up!

So will I actually attempt a write-in campaign?  I’m not sure yet, but the responsible thing to do would be to stand down as survival right now is damn near impossible.  Suppose I run a write-in campaign.  Now, suppose that I defy every possible odd and win.  Why would I do that knowing that I might not make it to be sworn in?

If I do survive that long, I absolutely won’t make it through half of my first term.  That wouldn’t be fair to the hypothetical voters who gave me the keys to the mayor’s office.

Will I die in hours, minutes, days or even weeks?  Hell, I don’t know, but I can tell you that, on an almost daily basis, things are going from bad to worse.  That’s not me being dramatic.  That’s just the way real life goes.  I’m content with my decision to not take a chance and to not get surgery.

It’ll be interesting to see what happens tomorrow.  While it is possible that tonight’s winner will be the next mayor, I might still be a thorn in the candidates’ paw.  Also, I can almost promise you that more candidates will come out of the woodwork now that the primary is over.

But yes, I am realistic and I will say that we will probably be cursed with another Democrat for mayor and worse than that, we could have the first black mayor in ages.  Either of those things fucks Albany over.

No matter what the results are, and no matter if more write-in candidates pop up, things are just starting as opposed to winding down.

Sit back and enjoy the show!
