Yesterday, I published an article about a teenage girl by the name of Samantha Humphrey, 14. She was killed back in 2022, allegedly by her sporadic boyfriend. The story goes that she thought she might be pregnant and that he was the father. Her pregnancy seems to have never been actually confirmed.
In my article, I placed some of the blame for the alleged murder squarely upon her shoulders. I stand behind that article and I have no regrets. Since the article went live, I’ve been deluged with hate mail, angry voice mail messages and nasty responses on X.
Now why did I accuse her of being partially responsible for her own death? Because she obviously engaged in sexual activity with no protection. It has yet to be actually confirmed that she was really pregnant. The suspect in the story is now 17 and has been charged with second-degree murder. He is in a juvenile facility until his trial, something that is typical when murder is alleged.
There is a Facebook group dedicated to her and since the news of the suspect’s arrest broke yesterday, a lot of people have expressed joy because of the arrest and some even posted what they say is the alleged murderer’s real name. Several people have posted the same name and it’s there for any Facebook user to see. Even so, I am not naming him because he is a minor and because I feel that his actions were at least a little bit justified.
The story goes that he was told he was the father of the baby and for obvious reasons, that set him off. He allegedly became so irate that he strangled the girl after she apparently refused to have an abortion. The very thought of 18 years of child support would enrage any man who doesn’t want to be a father.
All of this could have been avoided had she not fornicated, or at the very least, it could have been avoided if she’d simply insisted on birth control. Her lack of action is why I accuse her of bearing some of the blame. Of course murder is a crime, but I can understand his side of the story, if in fact he did murder her.
His defense attorney is likely going to go after a crime of passion defense, or something like temporary insanity. Any competent lawyer would approach a case like this from those angles. I really don’t blame him for what he allegedly did. If Humphrey really was pregnant, of course should have pursued giving the baby up for adoption or, in the worst case scenario, considered an abortion due to their extremely young ages.
But back to the point. I stand behind what I wrote yesterday and I will not be apologizing. I stand resolute in my belief that she was at the very least a little responsible. It’s why I don’t feel sorry for her.
If you want to read posts from her friends, family and other supporters, the Facebook group in question is easily found. I will not be posting a link to the page, so if you truly want to dig deeper into the story, you’re going to have to do a few seconds of searching.
Some people asked how I sleep at night. Well, I sleep in a comfortable bed with blankets and pillows. I slept like a baby last night and I will do so again tonight. If you can’t handle the things that I write, perhaps you should click off and go to another website.
