Music Video of The Week: Enigma, Return to Innocence

I’m angrier than a blogger who waited too long to review this week’s music video Pick of The Week.  Today, we’re looking at Return to Innocence, by Enigma, a German group.  The song goes back all the way to 1994.  It is what some might call a classic song and a classy music video.  I agree.

With its melodious chats and stunningly beautiful lyrics, the video was shot in black and white and it is extremely creative.  The video starts with an elderly man laying down to die in the village where he lived for his entire life.  Then, the music video progresses, but backwards, from the man’s end to his beginning.

I remember the first time I heard the song.  I was in the back seat of the school bus for a ride that took an hour each day to school.  I had my Walkman on and I was listening to some radio station.  This song came on and it was beautiful.  Everything about the song was beautiful.  Then, while watching MTV later that day, I saw the video and it was and perhaps is the best music video that I’ve ever seen.  The concept is so simple and at the same time so beautiful.

This song is especially deserving of being this week’s pick of the week.  Give the song and music video a listen and a watch.  You might just like it too.
