Sometimes, a song comes along with a music video that sends a powerful message without us even noticing. So it is with this week’s Pick of The Week. Today, it’s all about Synchyme, a song by Dario G, a British duo that performs dance music. Today’s song dates back to 1997.
Sunchyme was a massive success throughout Europe, as well as the United States. Although the song didn’t make it onto Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart, the song was very popular in the clubs, earning Dario G the #1 position on Billboard‘s Dance Club Songs chart. It peaked at #7 on the Dance Singles chart. Clearly, it was a beloved song throughout the world.
The music video, shot in Africa, portrayed actors dressed as various animals of various colors who were fighting with one another. As the video progresses, the differently colored creatures interact with each other in a positive way. The video ends with people jumping into a body of water, washing off the paint, revealing all dancing and playing with one another.
Clearly, the message that the video tried to send was that it doesn’t matter what our skin color is. We can all interact positively without caring about skin color.
The video was well shot and it sent a powerful message. The song itself heavily samples Dream Academy’s Life in A Northern Town, a hit from all the way back to 1985.
By the way, there is another version of the song that Dario G, performed, and that version is here.
As for Dario G, the group disbanded and the producer, Paul Spencer, sadly passed away in June of this year of causes incident to cancer. But his music, including Carnival De Paris, lives on.
