Up until recently, I was a major Trump supporter. In many ways, I still am, but I stand in firm opposition to his most recent actions, namely his declaration of war on Iran. It is a war that, much like most of the other wars we’ve been involved in, isn’t needed. In recent articles, I stated that military lives will be lost and that when those deaths occur, the blood of those people will be on Trump’s hands.
Today, Trump had the audacity to show his face at a dignified transfer, where the bodies of the soldiers whose death warrants he signed were received. Seriously, he showed his disregard for human life and that arrogance will put six bodies in the ground, with more to follow. Does Trump care? No.
If Trump truly cared about his military, he wouldn’t have initiated what is basically an unofficial declaration of war, something that he did without the approval of Congress, I might add. Look, I like the guy. I voted for him twice and I will do so for a third time, but that doesn’t mean that I have to support every single one of his actions.
Trump has done a lot of good things for our country and I have no doubt that he will continue to do so, but he’s dead wrong on this. Problem is, people will be dead because of him, namely people under his command. He will continue to draw breath while those who died on his command won’t. The fact that he’s showing no remorse tells me all I need to know.
There is no reason for us to be involved in any conflict, especially not Iran. The only two wars that we actually were justified in being involved in were the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812. Everything else? Not needed, not even the act of revenge that Bush authorized in 2001. Because of his orders, countless military lives were lost, and all in the name of petty revenge. It is not up to us to seek out revenge.
Trump is playing games with innocent lives. Yes, when one joins the military, one knows he or she might have to pay with his or her life, but to lose one’s life over Trump’s refusal to just leave Iran be? That, I’m sorry to say, might lead to another impeachment effort. That effort may actually bear fruit and this time, Trump might even be forcibly removed. Again, I hate to say it, but perhaps he does need to atone for his murderous orders with the loss of his presidency.
What’s done, however is done. Nothing can be done to bring those people back. But now’s the time for Trump to put a halt to all this pettiness in the Middle East. Our military is meant to protect American lives, no one else’s. Trump sure had his nerve showing up today, and I hope he loses sleep every night for the rest of his life.
