A college education, but still retarded

I’m angrier than a blogger who sees stupid people.  That’s because this story has “freaking idiot” written all over it is.  So it is with one Grace Bentkowski, 22.  She was college educated and was, until she went splat, a creative producer at NewsNation in Chicago.

Yes, folks, Bentowski found herself flattened by a train.  But it wasn’t the train engineer’s fault.  She wasn’t aware of her surroundings.  She apparently wasn’t paying a bit of attention to the trains and found herself struck.  So what went wrong?

People, including her family, are blaming the lack of warnings such as horns, warning bars and an audible warning.  None of these things are required by law at the train station where it happened.  The one thing I’m not seeing in all this is the blame for herself.

Now, I don’t know about you, but I always watch where I’m going when I cross train tracks, whether by foot or car.  I always annoy someone behind me when I stop and look both ways, especially since I listen to music while I drive.  After all, it is possible for the bars to fail to come down and it’s possible to not hear the horn.  When I walk across, I’m cautious times two.

It sounds to me like someone felt like the laws of physics didn’t apply to her.  Apparently, all she had in her hands were her car keys, so this isn’t a case of someone’s head bent down, staring at a smartphone screen.  What this is is a case of Darwin striking yet again.

So what was the problem here?  Bentowski was college educated, but clearly, she was still retarded.  Why are people who are supposedly intelligent so stupid?  There should have been no need for all the safety measures that weren’t required in the first place?  After all, many people clearly cross the tracks on a daily basis.

Why was Bentowski so stupid? At the very least, she provided both a warning and she even supplied the laughter.  Splat!

She worked for NewsNation, but she clearly belonged at ABC News.
