I’m being a total dick during this Albany heat wave. The mayor and governor, along with others, want us to conserve electricity to reduce the strain on the power grid, preventing granny from having a heat stroke, among other things.
Not my problem! Actually, I am cranking both air conditioners and doing more! I can lower the settings and actually run only one and still be comfortable, but when I read the unreasonable demands leaders are making, I went into full dick mode. I know, you’re shocked.
I also have every light on, all my television sets and I took two hot showers just to put the hot water thank on full duty. Why? Because I want to see the power grid give out and give some grannies heat strokes and give other people an uncomfortable experience. I would actually enjoy reading news stories like that, knowing that I helped contribute to the collapse of the power grid.
It will not be my fault if the grid fails, especially since others are doing the same as I am: giving the governor and others the middle finger. If I pay the power bill, I get to decide how much electricity gets used. And yes, I do know that by using all this extra energy just to be petty, I am shooting myself in the foot and will literally pay for my choices when the next bill comes. But guess what? Worth it!
Speaking of which, National Grid now offers real-time usage readings if you log into your account and look for the option under “usage.” I’ve been monitoring it all day and even with the air conditioners and other things, the increase in usage isn’t as bad as one might think it would be, meaning that my next bill may be only $40 or so more than usual. That makes me want to add two more air conditioners just to put the grid to a true test.
When people cry out for us to conserve water and electricity, that just makes me use even more of those resources, just to be an asshole. If the power goes out at the time this article was published, the heat and humidity will almost immediately cause health issues for vulnerable people, including myself. My seizure disorder is exacerbated by extreme heat, so I will take as much as I give. But again…worth it if it means making others suffer, even if for only a couple of hours.
As I publish this article, I will sit back and bask in the extreme cold, knowing that there are those outside and those without air conditioning who could drop due to heat stroke. Not my fault!
