That’s a stupid idea!

President Trump has, for the most part, done a fine job after returning to the White House.  There are two major blunders, however.  Blunder the first was starting a war with Iran.  There is no excuse for that.  Another blunder is apparently happening tonight.  Apparently, Trump plans to address the nation tonight regarding his latest plan for the nation.

The rumors are that Trump is thinking about pulling the United States from the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, or NATO.  I’ve oft written about them in my articles regarding the upcoming World War III.  Specifically, I point out Article V, an agreement that essentially says that an attack on one of the 32-member nations is an attack on all.

That article means that if someone attacks the United Kingdom, we’ll jump in and defend them right alongside the other NATO nations.  If Iran attacks us, then the remaining nations will intervene.  That is, of course, unless the rumblings are true.  There are a lot of perks to being aligned with NATO and Trump shouldn’t even be joking about leaving.  He’s thinking of blowing up a 77-year relationship.

Through NATO, there is the shared defense agreement.  There are plenty of other reasons and you can read about them for yourself.  Basically, each member nation enjoys a lot of benefits, the United States included.  Why, then, would Trump ever threaten to pull us out of NATO?  It seems as if he’s enraged that our NATO allies aren’t exactly lining up to fight Iran. That should be a red flag.  To him.

If numerous nations are refusing to help, there’s a good reason for that: everyone, except Trump, knows that a war with Iran is not justified.  I am sure that there have been uncomfortable discussions within individual governments, and I am sure that the nations who are not stepping forward know what they’re doing.

I understand that Trump is angered by the lack of support, but he should be taking that to heart instead of making indications, no matter how slight, that he’d even consider withdrawing us.  In the end, though, I am sure that plenty of people will make him see reason.  If we withdraw and Russia attacks us, we’ll be on our own.

As tragic as it would be if we parted ways with NATO, I truly hope that no NATO nation capitulates to Trump’s hissy fit.  Any nation that supports a war with Iran should is not a good nation.  In time, I think Trump will realize that leaving NATO would be bad for 32 countries.  He has otherwise been an excellent president, so I think he’ll come around.

If something like us leaving were to ever become a reality and if a NATO nation is attacked by, say, China, North Korea or Russia, they will not enjoy the benefit of an all-American defense walking in lockstep with them. In other words, leaving NATO would be awful for all parties.

Let’s hope that tonight’s address will simply be Trump wishing the astronauts well following their successful entry into our planet’s orbit with eyes towards orbiting the Moon, an awful waste of taxpayer monies, but that’s for another day.
