Everyone knows that in order to make an omelette, you have to break some eggs. Sometimes, those eggs are schoolchildren. So it is with an American operation in Iran, apparently. A school was attacked last week and numerous Iranian children were killed as a result. US officials are almost certain that our military is responsible as Israel was not operating in that area at the time.
I get that they were just kids who had no role in what’s going on, but they’re no longer kids. They’re eggs. Look, war is hell, and sometimes, innocent people die. That’s just the way that it is. I don’t feel bad for the children or their parents. They were all Iranian and Iran is our enemy. If I were the military commander who gave the go-ahead, I could sleep well at night.
There is an ongoing investigation, so nothing is certain just yet, but based on the news stories, it’s highly likely that we Americans kicked some Iranian ass. If some of those asses belong to children, that’s just the way the cookie crumbles. There’s no sense in getting upset about it, or we’ll have another Vietnam on our hands.
What do I mean by that? I mean that when our nation’s soldiers came home from Vietnam, most of them were greeted by Americans not with open arms, but with spitting and hatred, all because some bad eggs did some very bad things to Vietnamese children. As a result, many Americans decided every person in the military was the enemy. Not so!
If we get upset every time a kid gets killed, then we might see a repeat of the welcome wagon that awaited soldiers returning from Vietnam. That simply cannot happen. If American soldiers did kill those kids, they were merely following lawful orders. Whether you like it or not, that’s the cold, hard truth.
In Vietnam, a few bad soldiers took it upon themselves to violate children in many awful ways. In this case, however, it’s a case of everyone following orders. We cannot and will not blame anyone who bombed those kids. A member of the military must at all times execute any and all orders given, no matter who gets hurt.
I am not angry about Iranian children being deleted. They are in Iran and that makes them our enemies, regardless of how old they were. I will also say this: this is not the last time something like this will happen, especially given that the war in the Middle East is escalating and not deescalating. More civilians will die and, yes, some of them will be children.
That’s just the way it goes. Go get angry over something that actually matters.
